Limited Batch Cardamom Bun highlights the beauty of Burlap & Barrel’s Cloud Forest Cardamom and Royal Cinnamon, sourced directly from smallholder farmers for unmatched taste, traceability, and quality. These fragrant, warming spices are lusciously swirled throughout our heirloom Mission almond base, sweetened with a touch of Organic coconut nectar, and balanced with dashes of Jacobsen Sea Salt and real vanilla to create our ode to one of our favorite pastry case classics, the Swedish cardamom bun.
We love Cardamom Bun atop fresh pancakes, smeared thickly on toast with fresh fruit, spooned into yogurt bowls, or for a lovely transportive treat, straight from the jar. Only here through September 30!
HISTORY OF CARDAMOM BUNS
Cardamom has been present in Sweden for centuries, but it wasn’t until the past 100 years or so that the spice became more accessible to the working class. Similarly, sweet buns, usually consisting of a yeasted dough flavored with spices and twisted into a knot-like shape and glazed with sugar, have been integral to Swedish dining—especially the culturally integral fika (“coffee break” for us English speakers)—for decades. Originally only offered at bakeries, these sweet buns became more accessible for home bakers to create in the 1950s when the cost of butter, sugar, and other integral ingredients decreased following WWII. While cardamom has always been in the dough of many popular offerings, it only became a staple Swedish flavor of the sweet bun in the past 15-20 years, in part due to the rise in popularity of the cardamom bun in other major world cities.

OUR LIMITED BATCH NUT BUTTER SERIES
Each Limited Batch nut butter represents a take on nut butter that didn't exist before, pushing the boundaries of what nut butter can be. These recipes are distinctly of the moment, celebrating the season as well as the sheer joy of invention, and are available for only three consecutive months each year. With the support of our community (that's you!), our Limited Batch nut butters can even make it into our permanent lineup—bestsellers like Pistachio Crunch and Carrot Cake started as Limited Batch nut butters!
INSPIRED INNOVATION
Cardamom Bun is a (vegan) celebration of one of our favorite pastry case classics, the Swedish Cardamom Bun, or as it's called in Sweden, kardemummabullar. When setting out to create this recipe, we wanted to capture the comforting warmth of the cardamom and cinnamon-spiced vanilla sugar filling and the just-sweet-enough, buttery pastry. We hope you agree this nut butter does just that, thanks to a roasty-smooth heirloom Mission almond base, accented with swirls of Burlap & Barrel's Cloud Forest Cardamom and Royal Cinnamon, sweetened with a touch of Organic coconut nectar and balanced with real vanilla and Jacobsen sea salt. It's the first nut butter spin on this tasty treat, created (as always!) without any artificial flavors, colors, or ingredients.

I really love this flavor. It is very nice and balanced. I put it in my protein shake instead of regular peanut butter and it gives it a really nice flavor. I also eat it straight out of the jar just because I can.❤️

If you enjoy cardamom, you must stock up before this limited time flavor is gone! I wish this would become a permanent flavor. It reminds me of the Chai Spice, but I like the almond butter in the Cardamom Bun better vs the peanut butter in Chai Spice. Both are great flavors though.

I like to try a new nut butter when Big Spoon comes out with one. I really like this one! I prefer that my nut butters are not on the sweet side, but this butter is just-enough sweetness mixed in with delicious cardamom spice. I know now why Swedes love their cardamom buns! I tend to put jam on top of my nut butter & bread. For my first taste, I only did the Cardamom Bun Almond Butter on toast. It is delicious by itself. I plan to buy a second jar as it's a limited edition.
