The story of Chai Spice Peanut & Almond Butter starts with the 2012 wedding of our co-founders, Mark and Megan. Mark invented the concept of a nut butter blended with chai spices as a fusion of some of his favorite things (nuts) and Megan’s (masala chai tea). Each guest received a jar as a wedding favor, and the reception was so enthusiastically positive, Mark and Megan decided to include it in Big Spoon’s permanent lineup. It’s been a bestseller ever since! We especially love this nut butter spread thickly on fresh apple slices, stirred into overnight oats, on dreamy PB&Js, and in heaping spoonfuls right out of the jar.
Our Chai Spice Peanut & Almond Butter combines American agriculture in the form of High-Oleic Runner peanuts and heirloom Mission almonds with traditional tea spices of the Indian subcontinent, where “chai” is simply a word for “tea” in Hindi. Like gumbo in Louisiana or peach pie in Georgia, there are as many spiced tea recipes in India as there are families, who pass them down through generations.
The spice mixture is a traditional Masala Chai blend of cardamom, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, and black pepper, which we slowly mix with the freshly milled nuts before adding touches of raw Organic cane sugar, raw Organic wildflower honey, and Jacobsen sea salt to create a bright, complex burst of flavor in every spoonful.
Grown in the high plains of Cordoba, Argentina, our High-Oleic Runner peanuts are 30% higher in heart-healthy fats than other peanuts and are great sources of protein, iron, calcium, magnesium, and the antioxidant resveratrol. These peanuts are also grown in naturally rich soil without fertilizers, irrigation, or pesticides.
Mission almonds are also nutrition powerhouses, offering vitamin E, magnesium, and 20% more protein than other almond varieties. In addition, they require less water for cultivation, making them a more environmentally sustainable choice. Unlike many almond butter makers out there, we mill our almonds with their anti-inflammatory skins intact, further boosting their antioxidants and heart-healthy fiber in our nut butters.
Our Organic raw wildflower honey comes from the Sunderbans National Park in Bengal, India, which also serves as a sanctuary for the region’s tigers and other wildlife. Among its many nutritional benefits, raw honey contains inflammation-fighting polyphenols, phytonutrients that boost the immune system, and natural anti-bacterial enzymes.

INGREDIENT INTEGRITY
Each ingredient we use is carefully sourced based on our strict standards for taste, sustainability, transparency, and the fair and ethical treatment of everyone involved in producing it. Most of our ingredients are Certified Organic and all are GMO-free. We work exclusively with whole, natural foods, and you won’t find gluten, soy, or anything described as a “flavor” among our ingredients. We also never use fillers or shelf stabilizers like palm oil, hydrogenated oils, or partially hydrogenated oils.

Our skilled food artisans roast, toast, measure, and mix each batch by hand to exacting standards to get the pinnacle of taste and freshness from each ingredient. The small scale of our batch process allows us to craft each jar and bar with incredible precision and care you can taste. This level of focus also allows us to carefully inspect and taste each product to make sure it meets our standards before it is packaged and delivered. My brother visiting from D.C. found this while we were at Eatly in Dallas when he was in for Thanksgiving. He told me it was a must have so I grabbed a jar. I eat peanut butter with my apples all the time. This flavor took it to the next level. My grandsons kept asking for more when I shared my apples with them. Definitely had to get more. I live in east Texas so shipping is a must. Love it!!

Not sure where I bought it originally but been looking for it on the shelves of various markets ever since, not having found it I ordered direct from Big Spoon, delivery was great.
This is the GOAT of nut butter! Slightly sweet from the spices, crunchy and salty whats not to like! On fresh buttered toast this makes waking up worth while!

I purchased the small sizes of Chai Spice, Bourbon Pecan, Lum Lum Thai Curry and Fiji Ginger. A nut butter tasting! All were good interesting flavors. My personal favorite was Chai Spice and my only suggestion is about the Fiji Ginger. more ginger, please!
