SUMMER 2024 R&D BATCH: DURHAM SUMMER PEANUT BUTTER

A little bit roasty, charmingly salty, and sweet as can be. That’s how we think about summers in Durham, NC, the town where our founders met, launched Big Spoon Roasters, and still call home. There’s a lot to love about Durham, including our friends and fellow independent thinkers at Merge Records, who are celebrating 35 years (!) of intentionally un-corporate music this year. Inspired by our shared roots and love of Durham, we created this Durham Summer Peanut Butter to help mark the occasion.

About this collaboration:

This collaboration peanut butter offers the perfect balance of ballpark-roasty High Oleic Runner peanuts, naturally sweet dried figs, raw Organic wildflower honey, and Jacobsen sea salt for a super-chunky texture you’ll want to spoon all day long. We love it spread, thickly, on fresh apple slices, stirred into overnight oats, on any PB&J, and in fat scoops right out of jar.  It also pairs beautifully with Superchunk’s “On the Mouth,” Hiss Golden Messenger’s “Jump for Joy,” and H.C. McEntire’s “Lionheart,” among other classic Merge releases.

About the ingredients:

Grown in the high plains of Cordoba, Argentina, our High Oleic Runner peanuts are 30% higher in heart-healthy fats than other peanuts and are great sources of protein, iron, calcium, magnesium, and the antioxidant resveratrol. These Cordoban peanuts are also grown in naturally rich soil without fertilizers, irrigation, or pesticides.

Our Organic raw wildflower honey comes from the Sunderbans National Park in Bengal, India, which also serves as a sanctuary for the region’s tigers and other wildlife. Among its many nutritional benefits, raw honey contains inflammation-fighting polyphenols, phytonutrients that boost the immune system, and natural anti-bacterial enzymes.
