There's something special about our December Featured Jam maker, Girl Meets Dirt. Every detail of their handmade products, from the fruit-forward flavor of their jams and shrubs to the beautiful packaging, is a reminder of the care and dedication with which their products were made. Taking no shortcuts, Girl Meets Dirt makes every batch slowly in a copper pot with fruit, a little sugar, and a lot of patience.
Based in the San Juan Islands at the northwest corner of Washington State, Girl Meets Dirt was founded in 2013 after Audra Lawlor ("girl") left a career on Wall Street for a farmette down a one-lane road on Orcas Island ("dirt"). Audra and her team see the foods they make as tangible ways to celebrate a human connection to the land and the beautiful fruit it produces.
This month's jam, Pear Balsamic is an ode to the Bartlett pears sourced from nearby heirloom orchards. Don't let the balsamic vinegar frighten you. It adds a wonderful acidity and brightness, elevating the taste of the pears without overpowering their delicate flavor. Organic quince and lemon juice provide additional depth, balanced by just the right amount of organic cane sugar. The resulting preserves are equally delicious with blue cheese or in a vinaigrette as they are paired with our Chai Spice Peanut & Almond Butter over apple cider donuts.
Chai Spice Peanut & Almond Butter with Sea Salt

Our chai spice mixture is a traditional Masala Chai blend of cardamom, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, and black pepper, which we slowly mix with fresh-roasted, freshly milled peanuts and almonds before adding raw, organic cane sugar, raw wildflower honey, and sea salt to create a bright, complex burst of flavor in every spoonful. True story: our founders Mark & Megan created this recipe for their wedding, and it's been our best seller ever since.
